Over £23,400 raised for Marie Curie in Janet Bird’s memory

On Friday 9th June, we were honoured to be a part of a huge celebration of life for Janet Bird, who sadly passed away in 2022.

The Spiros team joined forces with Chef Anand George with Tukka Tuk Canteen Food and The Events Room UK at The Springs, the revamped wedding venue at Dyffryn, to put on a spectacular gala dinner in Jan’s memory.

Like Jan, it would be full of fun and laughter – a celebration of her life, rather than a mourning of her passing, and all in aid of the Marie Curie hospice in Penarth, who looked after Jan when she was poorly.

250 guests joined us at The Springs for the night, with Anand providing his award-winning Keralan food, set against the backdrop of this stunning, natural venue. A silent auction was held, offering items like luxury stays at glamping pods – this was a huge success, helping to boost the charity pot.

And thanks to our wonderful guests, we were delighted to raise a whopping £23,424.67 for Marie Curie!

Jan’s husband Jonathan, our good friend and owner of The Springs, was humbled by the generosity of everyone who attended.

“I am very pleased to announce that we managed to raise an amazing amount for Marie Curie Holme Towers. I cannot express how overwhelmed we have been with the amazing generosity of our friends and family. Thank you all so much.”

We’d proud to have managed and serviced the event in Jan’s honour. On behalf of the Spiros team, we’d like to thank all the guests, donors and sponsors who helped join us to make this evening such a special celebration of such a fantastic woman.

£40k for 40 years

As part of our 40th year celebrations, we’re aiming to raise £40k for good causes in 2023 – a thousand pounds for every year we’ve been in business.

The Marie Curie gala dinner for Jan was our third event, after helping to raise £7500 for City Hospice in March when we brought the West End to Cornerstone, and £8000 for Guide Dogs Cymru, which is the Lord Mayor’s charity of the year 2022/2023.
