We recently joined forces with the Cardiff St Davids Rotary Club and local teenagers from St Mellons to cook up a storm for 60 guests
Now in its 9th year, our Rotary Club Dinner and training course is all about getting teenagers excited about the wonderful world of food; a passion of ours at Spiros headquarters.
Over 6 weeks, kids aged between 14-18 attended cooking classes held by us at one of our home venues; Cornerstone Cardiff, with the aim of cooking a grand dinner for the St Davids Rotary Club.
Our chef Aggy trained them in all aspects of the kitchen. Baking bread, filleting fish, and making soups & sauces were on the menu!
Not only that, but they learned front-of-house skills, preparation, food hygiene, and delivering excellent service.
The classes led up to a formal dinner on the 26th April 2018 where the teens were tasked with prepping, cooking and serving a three course meal for 60 people; including Cardiff St Davids Rotary Club members, the Deputy Lord Mayor, and various Councillors – and they did brilliantly!
The menu was a fine dining spectacular, as you can see…
Poached wheel of salmon with king prawn and white wine veloute
Duo of chicken served with potato cake, fine green bean bundle and carrot
Sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce & gooey chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream
We’re also very pleased to say that as a consequence of the course, we have taken on an 18-year-old apprentice who has shown a real interest in the kitchen, so a fantastic result!
Now, on to the next one…
